Students have been approved to take this course after submitting an application and portfolio to be reviewed by anonymous faculty members. This advanced level course focuses on strengthening skills of the student’s choice, building studio practice, compiling a professional portfolio and art resume, and communicating about and critiquing their own art and the art of others at an advanced level. Art & Discontent: Theory at the Millennium Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird by Thomas McEvilley is the primary text utilized in this curriculum and is read and discussed in depth during the first quarter of this year-long course. Among other smaller assignments, students also build an art lesson to teach their peers.
