This intermediate level course spends the first semester focusing on drawing and the second semester focusing on printmaking. These media based semesters help us focus on specific methods and tools used in each of the media.
We meet in the art room with Mrs Long once a day, during 2nd hour, for about 40 minutes. These courses only meets on EVEN years and is part of a rotating elective schedule.

Drawing
Students begin by drawing a representational rendering of a still life. Students are then presented with information on the Cubism movement then recreate the same still life using the key concepts from the movement. Students are asked to consider each side of the still life and amplify the most interesting qualities of the objects.

Students start with learning proportions and gesture drawing then create an image of a figure of their choice in a dynamic pose.

Students learn about using sight lines, proportions, and different arrangements before bringing in representational objects to create a still life. Using the objects that represent them, students draw a representational image of their still life.

Students select a reflective surface to draw. They must include a portrait of themselves within the reflection. Students practice blending colored pencil to accurately represent the reflected colors.

Students learn how to use one and two-point perspective then apply these concepts to observational drawings of interior spaces.

Printing
Students use gelatin plates, different materials and objects, and printing ink to create gelatin monoprints.
