During 1st quarter, 1st-5th grade elementary students learned about artist Denise Treizman. We were inspired by her work and learned a lot about weaving. She was kind enough to respond to our questions about her work, practice, and personal life! The recordings are below. For more images of Denise's work, you can check out Illinois State University Galleries images of her exhibition.
LHS Art Club students have been working hard to update the purple pride mural in the elementary hallway! Stay tuned for the end creation that will feature all of our purple pride character traits!
LHS photography students made proof sheets, test strips, and prints in Illinois State University's darkroom. Students used the rolls of film they had exposed and developed earlier in the year to create their prints. We had so much fun learning how to use the enlarger and process our enlargements!
Lexington High School Art Students participated in the 2015 HOIC Art Festival on Friday, April 10th. They had the opportunity to display their artwork in the HOIC Art Show, tour the Heartland Community College campus, and participate in workshops led by Illinois State University Art Education Students. We had several winners in a variety of categories this year! We had 6 first place award recipients, 5 second place award recipients, 4 third place recipients, and Lane Francis took the higher honor of Best in Sculpture award! Congratulations to all those who participated! Students attending the Paris, France trip got together to watch an episode of Bizarre Foods-Paris and indulge in some home-made crepes. We took notes on the best places to snatch up some snail and chomp on some cheese! We can't hardly wait the 91 days until we depart!
After reading Jeremy Draws a Monster, the Kindergarten students drew a picture of their own monster. The Art One students used their monster drawings as inspiration to create a stuffed monster. Together, the Kindergarten and Art One students wrote a story about each monster that will be displayed with their creations at the Lexington Fine Arts Festival on March 13th. |
