Bradley University Art Department is having our 3rd annual Open Studio Day on Friday, October 31st, from 10:PM to 3:PM. This is an opportunity for the public to come to Bradley and see what young artists do in our program, meet faculty, watch demonstrations of every thing from Painting, Printmaking and Photography to Clay Throwing, Book Arts and Metal Casting. “Open Studio” is designed for high school students and their faculty to familiarize themselves with Bradley and to see first hand what a university art program offers. Our department has been accredited by the National Schools of Art &Design for 30 years which means we maintain a curriculum that meets and exceeds the national standards for excellence in faculty, course content, and technology. Bradley Faculty are committed educators and also professional artists that show regularly in regional and national venues. We hope to see you all there again this year! We have some surprises such as a special Clay Club exhibition and sale that includes a chili lunch. In our main gallery we have an exhibition titled Cargo Space which is an accumulation of recent art faculty from RICE University, the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, and Columbia College in Chicago. You may have noticed that this year's event is on Halloween so expect to see something uncanny or alien! There will be special work on view from students and faculty that explore Surrealist and DaDa themes. Enjoy a measure of the eerie, abhorrent, irrational, phobic, obsessive and of course beautiful, such as Print Professor Oscar Gillespie's engraving above! And there's much more so we will keep you updated.

Yesterday the Lexington Fine Arts Center received a visit from the Art Therapy Pedalers! We made books and wooden necklaces with the materials from the art treasure chest they are hauling from Iowa to Louisiana on bike. For more information about their journey check them out on facebook or at www.theartpedalers.com Here is a GREAT opportunity for you to explore a future in art! Make sure to register on the website (finearts.illinoisstate.edu/art/). I will give 15 points extra credit to anyone who attends! *If you attend, make sure to provide evidence of your participation (a signature from Nancy Fewkes, a picture with John Miller, a show card, saying hi to me, etc.).
This year, the LHS Art Club is teaming with Lexington's Booster Club to paint the windows of local businesses on Main St. in celebration of Homecoming. Each week Art Club will be painting a different window, so keep an eye out for their fun "Destination Homecoming" themed art!
